Masjid Mukarram Bangtao (Mukaram Mosque)
Mosque · Phuket, Thailand
Masjid Mukarram Bangtao, also written as Mukarrom or Mukaram Mosque, is one of the most prominent mosques in northern Phuket. It is located in Choeng Thale, along the main road between Cherng Talay and Surin Beach, within the wider Bang Tao community. The mosque is closely tied to a long-established local Muslim population in this part of the island, where village life, coastal settlement, shops, schools, and tourism development sit close together.
The mosque is described as the largest mosque in Phuket and can accommodate more than 1,000 worshippers, especially during Friday prayer. Its low-rise structure is marked by four minaret-style towers at the corners, giving the building a clear presence on the road. The mosque compound includes an Islamic school for children, a wide courtyard, and space for fairs, events, parking, and community gatherings. This makes Masjid Mukarram Bangtao more than a prayer hall. It functions as a community anchor for Bang Tao, supporting education, religious activity, social events, and daily neighbourhood life in one of Phuket’s important Muslim areas.
