Masjid Jamek (Yameay)

Mosque · Phuket, Thailand

Masjid Jamek, also known as Yameay Mosque or Taling Chan Mosque, is one of the key mosques in Phuket Town. It stands on Taling Chan Road in Talat Yai, close to Surin Circle and within an area where different religious and cultural landmarks sit near one another. The mosque is located between the Hock Guan Kong Chinese Shrine and the Church of the Assumption, making its setting a clear example of Phuket Town’s long-standing religious diversity.

The mosque is a three-storey building with green domes, a tall minaret, and two large outdoor staircases. The main prayer hall is on the second floor, while the upper floor provides additional prayer space during busier gatherings. Friday prayer can draw several hundred worshippers, giving the mosque a central role for Muslim residents in and around Phuket Town. Its location near the old town area also makes it useful for visitors moving through the historic streets, markets, small shops, civic buildings, and older Sino-Portuguese neighbourhoods. Masjid Jamek’s importance lies in its urban position, community use, and visible place within Phuket Town’s multicultural landscape.
