Khan Kebab Ginza
Casual Dining · Halal certified · Tokyo, Japan
Cuisines: Turkish, Indian
Perched on the sixth floor of the iconic Hakuhinkan Toy Park building in the heart of Ginza, Khan Kebab Biryani is one of Tokyo's most celebrated halal Indian and Pakistani restaurants — a genuine culinary gem in one of the city's most glamorous and high-end shopping districts. With views over the famous Ginza streetscape from its elevated dining room, the restaurant offers an interior that evokes the feel of an Indian palace — elegant, spacious, and a world away from the compact curry counters found elsewhere in the city.
Run by a fully Muslim team of owners, managers, and staff, the restaurant has built a loyal following among both Muslim visitors seeking authentic halal Indian food in Tokyo and Japanese diners who have made it a regular favourite — a testament to the kitchen's consistent quality. The highlight of the menu is undoubtedly the biryani — fragrant basmati rice steamed with spicy broth in a traditional pot, available in chicken and mutton varieties, with the mutton biryani drawing particular praise for its tender, perfectly spiced meat. Diners from Delhi, Singapore, and Dubai have declared it the best Indian food in Tokyo, and it carries a distinctive Hyderabadi-Andhra influence that sets it apart from more generic interpretations.
Beyond biryani, the menu spans over 30 selections of Indian curry, tandoori dishes including seekh kebab, Afghani lamb chop, and tandoori prawns, alongside snacks like samosa and masala papad. Karahi Gosht — braised mutton in a tomato-based North Indian and Pakistani spiced sauce — is another favourite. Notably, Khan Kebab is also one of the very few restaurants in Japan that serves Haleem and Nihari, slow-cooked meat dishes that are staples of Pakistani cuisine but nearly impossible to find elsewhere in the country. Complimentary masala papads arrive at the table, and a generous all-you-can-drink course makes the restaurant well-suited to group dinners and celebrations. Lunch sets are also available, served with salad, rasam, a main dish, and chai or coffee.
