Hjh Maimunah - Joo Chiat
Casual Dining · Halal certified · Singapore City, Singapore
Cuisines: Indonesian, Malaysian
Named after the founder's mother, Hjh Maimunah is a beloved kampung-style Malay restaurant with roots going back to the early 1990s. Run today by second-generation owner Ms Mastura Binte Didih Ibrahim and her sisters, the family is dedicated to keeping heritage recipes alive — with a central kitchen ensuring every paste and sauce is made fresh and consistent across all their outlets.
The Joo Chiat branch, open since 2009, brings the same Michelin Bib Gourmand spirit to the east side of Singapore. Set in a shophouse along Joo Chiat Road, it carries the full breadth of the restaurant's more than 100-item menu — from Nasi Padang staples like beef rendang, tahu telur, lemak siput sedut, and ayam bakar sunda, to lesser-found dishes like sambal goreng pengantin and asam pedas. Weekend specials such as nasi lemak with fried chicken wing and signature sweet chilli sauce draw regulars back time and again.
The atmosphere is casual and family-friendly, with a smorgasbord of halal Malay and Indonesian dishes laid out for diners to pick from — true to the Nasi Padang tradition of selecting and sharing. Warm, accommodating staff add to the welcoming feel that keeps both locals and visitors coming back.
