Cuisines: Egyptian
Patong's stretch of Rat U Thit Road holds a dense concentration of the district's restaurants, and Cairo Restaurant has grown into two separate addresses along it, a sign of how steadily its Egyptian menu has found an audience among the area's visitors. Both locations lean into the same look: patterned textiles, low lighting, and shisha pipes set out for guests who want to linger after their meal.
The kitchen sticks closely to Egyptian grill cooking. Lamb skewers, marinated and cooked over open flame, are the anchor of the menu, served either as a plate with rice and salad or folded into a kebab sandwich for something faster. A kabob roll wraps spiced minced lamb in flatbread, and larger kabob platters are built for sharing between two or three people, arriving with grilled vegetables and a stack of bread for scooping up the drippings. The cooking style favours char and spice over sauce, closer to what's found in Cairo's own street side grill houses than to the more composed Middle Eastern menus found elsewhere in Phuket's tourist areas.
Patong itself is Phuket's busiest tourist strip, built around Bangla Road's nightlife and a long stretch of beach, and Rat U Thit runs a block back from the water through a mix of hotels, tailor shops, and restaurants catering to a broad range of nationalities. Cairo Restaurant's two branches sit within walking distance of each other, giving diners a choice depending on which end of the strip they're staying near. Inside, the rooms are small enough that the grill is often visible or audible from the tables, and the pace tends toward a slower, lounge rhythm rather than a quick turnover of tables, particularly in the evening.
